PRELIMINARY EXERCISE

Continuity task: filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room, sitting down in a chair opposite another character with whom she/he exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180% rule.
Preliminary Exercise
As a group we created a short film about a patient who is a hypochondriac and he is concerned about his hair falling out but he is told that it means nothing. In the group I was the actor along with Callum Drewett. I played the hypochondriac patient. Throughout the short film we used low angle shots along with running shots to vary the camera angles and to show that we have used a varied amount of shots. We also used straight cuts when it came to editing to vary the perspectives that the viewing audience would see. We also used a shot reverse shot when we were in dialogue to also show reactions and to improve the dialogue for the audience. We also used the 180 degree rule, this is where the audience don't see any of the equipment. But to also not confuse the audience when using shot reverse shots, the position of the actors. We also used over the shoulder shot to once again vary angles.

One challenge that was present with the Preliminary exercise was the editing. This was a problem was because it was our first time editing as well as using a proper camera. However, they were overcome in the end and the finished product was something that we could be proud of.
