Within the opening of Casino
Royale, the audience is treated to the backstory and hints towards the plot of Casino Royale. The main back drop of the
opening is the use of playing cards, this is because the pivotal plot point is
to do with playing cards, Texas Hold’Em poker.
Due to
James maintaining a constant tradition involving a music trailer at the start
this will set the scene for the rest of the movie, but it will also have themes from the movie, going back
to the example of playing cards in Casino Royale. The colours of the playing
cards are also introduced so black and red. The suits of the cards are also
used, spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs.
Firstly, as in every opening the director and other actors are introduced from the most important to the
least. So for James Bond Daniel Craig would be introduced first. There is also
a small segment in which roulette tables are shown to be like sniper scopes
due to them both having very similar shapes.
Within James Bond his most notable trait is his status, 007.
This is referred to with the playing cards in which two holes are shot into the
seven of hearts making him 007.
But possibly the most important element of an opening is to set the scene, Casino Royale does this
perfectly. It does this by presenting the constant theme of danger. Which
during the movie is constantly present and is always an danger for James Bond within the realm
of the film.
